Spent some time on Savage this past moday....actually hit North Branch first but it was a little hairy to wade so we tried out the lower section of Savage since its been a while since I fished it. Did really well on size 18 spin off of a pheasant tail ran in tandem with a generic CDC based nymph.

This is one super colored up cutty! I actually caught him twice!

Here is a decent Savage brown that ate an iron lotus...

Spent the last week fishing Savage river in western MD....it fished really well despite the occasional thunder shower (just makes for better fishing though!). Excellent hatches all week but the trout were not as eager to come to the surface as the week progressed. I fished soft hackle wets between the usual dry dropper. Dydmo wasnt too bad but deep nymphing is out of the question if you dont constantly check your fly. I also hit the SAVAGE SLAM a number of times.  On to the pics......

2/25/13....decided to try out falling springs for maybe a big winter brown....the fishing was tough but the midges were out in force with some bwo mixed in. I ended up with one small bow on a subsurface black midge larve.

Beaver creek in the ice!

After I looked out the window at around 7 am it looked like I wasnt going to make it to the creek but after it warmed up through the morning I figured the roads were fine.

The creek was clear with normal flows and the weather was rainy and overcast as I pulled up around 12 pm. After a few short drifts with a black midge nymph dropper I decided to switch to a black micro leech based on cold fingers and maybe a little lazyness....turned out to be the right move. I had about 6 fish to hand in an hour and a half.

Skinny long brown around 21 inches

Big Hunting Creek...........in the cold

We arrived at 10am with the dashboard temp reading 29. I didnt care at all how cold it was...after a long hunting season I wanted to get out and catch some trout! Patterns consisted of leeches, sculpins, and bugger creations...usual mountain trout winter patterns.

Falling springs pa

It was a hot day today but I wanted to get out. I have not visited Falling springs in a few years so decided why not check it out. I spotted a good amount of small bows and little browns but I was after larger quarry. The vegetation at this time is really thick so casting was difficult. I fished weed lines with a sculpin patterns and was rewarded with one nice brown.
